HOW TO LOAN
Making a Loan through Kiva
This requires:
A minimum loan of US$ 25
A credit card or a paypal account to make the loan.
You'll need a Paypal account to receive the money when the loan is paid back to you, but Kiva will create one for you automatically if you don't have one.
How to do it:
Just go to Kiva, find someone you want to loan to and click on the ‘lend now’ button. If you want you can make your individual loan also count as part of "team kiwi" effort by joining our Kiwikivas team. Just go here to join.
You can also give a Kiva gift certificate so that someone else can make a loan.
Esther runs a small shop that sells provisions, foodstuffs (oils, spices, rice and other cooking staples) and drinks in Benin City, Nigeria. She also runs a small restaurant down the road from her shop. Esther used her Kiva loan to increase the inventory of her small market. She says that her additions have helped her increase profits and satisfy her customers who come primarily from the neighborhood around her shop.

Creating "Infinity Loans"
A thing we are developing in Oamaru is what we call "Infinity Loans" . Here is what we do: we organise a group of people - a workplace or club or church group or whatever to collectively raise at least the minimum for one loan -right now thats about NZ $50. So its only a few bucks for each person. One person in the group is made treasurer of the loan and is in charge of loaning it via Kiva and keeping the group informed. The thing is- the loan never gets claimed back - it just keeps being reloaned via Kiva when it matures. Now that means the people who put money into the loan don't get it back, but they do see it being loaned again and again.
We are particularily interested in having children become treasurers and (with the assistance of an adults credit card) choosing and making the loans.
